Building Healthy Communities for Children: The
Physical and Social Environments
This conference
on environmental health at the University of Minnesota examined critical aspects of environments affecting
the health and well-being of children from pre-conception
to adolescence. Conference plenary and concurrent sessions
were organized around three broad themes: the natural environment,
the built environment and the social environment and around
critical life stages. Special attention was given to the
diverse social contexts in which children live, learn, and
play.

We spend about 90% of our time indoors
at home, work and/or
school.Interiors have numerous synthetic products, materials and
furnishings, and ventilation has been reduced from the abundant levels
of the past. Thus, the potential for indoor pollution becomes a
concern. |

Lead Poisoning Prevention
Lead
is a highly toxic metal that was used for many years in products
found in and around our homes. Lead may cause a range of
health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities,
to seizures and death. Children 6 years old and under are
most at risk, because their bodies are growing quickly. This
site provides information about lead, lead hazards, and provides
some simple steps to protect your family. >>> visit the website
