We also disseminate statements about our EJ network's political activities related to long term environmental issues that continue to seriously impact people's lives, and we publicize success stories concerning changes in environmental legislation with positive outcomes for citizens in our region.
May 3, 2008 Conference To Focus On The Crisis In New Jersey Created By Building Schools On Contaminated Sites

The South Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance, New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance and other environmental and civil rights organizations in New Jersey will host the State’s first conference to focus on the crisis caused by building schools on contaminated sites and the related issue of healthy schools.

We are also proud to announce that Ms. Lois Gibbs will be a featured guest speaker at the conference. Ms. Gibbs is nationally acclaimed for her groundbreaking work at Love Canal and is currently the Director of the Center for Health, Environment and Justice.

The Conference will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Thomas Edison State College, 101 West State Street, Trenton, NJ from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Conference is free and open to the public. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. >>> more

Feb 18 2007 NJ DEP leads the way on PFOA
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has set the nation’s lowest drinking water guidance level for the controversial chemical PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid). New Jersey identified the safe guidance level of only .04 parts per billion after finding PFOA contamination in drinking water supplies across the state. The DUPONT ACCOUNTABILITY COALITION, a coalition of environmental and labor organizations from PFOA polluted communities around the country, views New Jersey's action as major progress toward ending DuPont's reckless manufacture and use of PFOA. >>> READ MORE
Feb 15, 2007 Petty's Island: The Untold History

Petty’s Island, located just North of the Ben Franklin Bridge in the middle of the Delaware River, was an oil pumping station that has been reclaimed by nature into a beautiful habitat with nesting eagles.  This documentary, produced as part of Scribe’s Precious Places Community History Project shows how Petty’s Island, a former depot for enslaved Africans, is being threatened by development plans to turn the island into a gated community.
